Why this Recipe Works

Roasted Brussels sprouts have a naturally sweet and nutty flavor, with a crispy exterior, and they're soft and tender on the inside. They're tasty when seasoned with just a little salt and pepper, but these roasted Brussels sprouts take the flavor to another level with an Asian sweet chili glaze.

The glaze is made with common Asian pantry ingredients and is simple to prepare. Just a quick 20-minute roast, a toss in the flavorful glaze, and another 5 minute roast results in a sticky sweet, and flavorful side dish that is perfect with roasted meats and seafood.

How to Make Sweet Thai Chili Glaze

This Asian chili glaze has a mild spice level and is slightly sweet. The main ingredient is Thai sweet chili sauce. The soy sauce helps to balance the sweetness, and the sesame oil adds a touch of richness to the sauce.

To prepare the glaze, simply add all of the ingredients to a small bowl and stir to combine.

The chili sauce can also be used on other roasted veggies and is also a tasty dipping sauce for chicken tenders and roasted or boiled shrimp.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Remove any damaged or discolored leaves from the sprouts and trim the bottom stem, then cut in half.
  2. Toss sprouts with olive oil to coat, then season with salt and pepper. Arrange cut side down on a sheet pan and place in oven. It is important to arrange them in a single layer and leave some space between them, so they can get nice and crispy.

  1. Bake for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  2. Remove the sprouts from the oven and transfer to a mixing bowl. Pour the sauce over the top and toss or gently stir to coat. Transfer them back to the sheet pan and return to the oven for 5 minutes, then serve immediately.

What to Serve with Asian Brussells Sprouts

These flavorful roasted Brussels sprouts are an excellent option for something a little different at your next Christmas dinner. The flavors are amazing, and they go great with roasted meats like rib roast or roasted turkey.

They're also a perfect side dish for a steak like my reverse seared ribeye steaks or grilled pork chops.

Recipe Tips and FAQs

Roast Until Very Dark

For the best flavor, I recommend roasting the Brussels sprouts until they are very dark brown. The caramelization adds tons of flavor and enhances the natural sweet and nutty flavors of the sprouts. They may look almost burned on the outside, but you can easily scrape off any of the outer leaves that get too crispy before coating them in the sauce.

How to make Spicy Roasted Brussels Sprouts

The heat level on this recipe is pretty mild. If you want to make the dish spicier, I recommend adding 2 Tablespoons of sriracha hot sauce to the glaze mixture.

How to Store Leftovers

To store, let the sprouts cool, then transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days.

How to Reheat Leftovers

To reheat, place the brussels sprouts in a baking dish and bake at 350°F for 10 minutes, or until warmed through. Smaller portions can be reheated in the microwave.
