Why this Recipe Works

These roasted sweet potato wedges are the perfect side dish for your next weeknight dinner! They're healthy and flavorful and they only require a few common panty ingredients. And best of all they're ready in under 20 minutes.

Cooking these sweet potato wedges in your air fryer ensures they're crisp on the outside and tender and creamy on the inside. And the sweet and savory flavor goes great with almost any meal!

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients for sweet potato wedges arranged on a countertop.
  • Sweet Potatoes - Small to medium sized sweet potatoes work best for cutting into wedges. Larger potatoes will have too much flesh in the middle.
  • Brown Sugar - Adds a sweetness that compliments the natural flavor of the potatoes.
  • Chili Powder - A mild to medium chili powder balances the sweetness of the sugar for a delicious flavor combo.

See the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the complete list of ingredients and measurements.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 380℉.
  2. Cut the Potatoes - Rinse and dry the sweet potatoes, then cut them into evenly sized wedges around ½-inch thick.
  3. Season the Potatoes - Place the sweet potatoes in a large mixing bowl and toss with the olive oil. Combine the seasonings in a small bowl, then sprinkle over the sweet potatoes and toss until they are evenly coated.

  1. Transfer to Air Fryer - Place the sweet potatoes in your air fryer basket, leaving room between them for air circulation. Avoid overcrowding the basket. Cook them in batches if necessary.
  2. Cook the Potatoes - Cook the sweet potatoes for 12 to 15 minutes, tossing or flipping them every 4 to 5 minutes. Check the potatoes for doneness with a fork. If they are not completely tender, cook for another 2-3 minutes until cooked through.

Expert Tips

  • Cut the potatoes into similarly sized wedges so they cook evenly.
  • Use tongs to rearrange the potatoes every 4-5 minutes so they will cook more evenly.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. It's okay if the potatoes are not in a single layer, but you need room for airflow, so don't pack them in the basket too tightly.

What to Serve with Sweet Potato Wedges

These air fryer sweet potato wedges are a perfect, easy side dish for almost any meal. You can pair them with my reverse seared ribeye for a steakhouse dinner at home or my cheeseburger sliders for an easy weeknight dinner.

Storage and Reheating

Store leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days.

Reheat leftovers in your air fryer at 360℉ for 2 to 3 minutes or until warmed through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to peel my sweet potatoes?

It's not necessary to peel the sweet potatoes in this recipe. Be sure to thoroughly rinse and dry them before cooking. The skins will help them hold together better as they soften during the cooking process.

Why are my sweet potatoes not crispy?

Adequate airflow is essential for the air fryer to produce crispy results, so don't overcrowd the basket. If necessary, cook the potatoes in batches to ensure crispy sweet potato wedges.

If your wedges are not as crispy as you'd like, spray them with a light coating of cooking spray and add half of them back to the air fryer at 380℉ for 2-3 minutes or until crispy. Repeat with the remaining wedges.
