These cheeseburger sliders with Hawaiian rolls are perfect for a tasty game-day appetizer or a 30-minute weeknight dinner. They feature sautéed ground beef and onions with gooey melted cheese in soft, sweet Hawaiian rolls. It's a quick and easy dish and a true crowd-pleaser!
Why this Recipe Works
Everyone loves classic ham and cheese sliders on Hawaiian rolls, and everyone also loves cheeseburgers, so in this recipe, we'll borrow a little from each of the two dishes and make cheeseburger sliders on Hawaiian rolls!
They're super easy to make and are perfect for an appetizer on game-day or just a quick weeknight dinner for the family. My kids love them, and I know your family will, too!
You need only a few simple ingredients and about 10 minutes of hands-on time, and they'll be ready to serve in just 30 minutes.
Ingredient Notes
- Ground Beef - I recommend 85/15 or 90/10 ground beef for this recipe. You need some fat to keep the meat moist and flavorful, but too much will make them greasy.
- Hawaiian Rolls - Sweet Hawaiian rolls are perfect for these hamburger sliders. They get soft and gooey and almost melt in your mouth! You can use dinner rolls as well, but they won't be quite as soft.
- American Cheese - Another must-have ingredient is American cheese. It melts into the ground beef to make these sliders gooey and mouthwatering! You can use other types of cheese, like cheddar, if you prefer.
See the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the complete list of ingredients and measurements.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Prep -Preheat your oven to 350℉. Lightly coat a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray.
- Cook the Beef and Onion - Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the meat and onion to the pan. Break up the meat with a spatula, then season it with Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the meat is cooked through and the onions are softened. Drain the fat, then set the meat aside.
- Slice the Rolls - Cut the rolls in half horizontally without separating them, and place the bottom half in a 9x13 baking dish.
- Assemble the Sliders - Layer 6 slices of cheese on the bottom half of the rolls so they are slightly overlapping. Top with the browned meat and spread into an even layer. Then, add another layer of the remaining cheese and place the top half of the rolls on top.
- Bake the Sliders - Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and the buns are lightly browned.
- Slice and Serve - Slice into individual sliders and serve them warm.
Expert Tips
- For a larger crowd, you can double or even triple this recipe and bake the sliders on a sheet pan.
- It can be challenging to keep the meat on the rolls when you're spreading it out, especially if you're baking the rolls on a sheet pan and not in a baking dish. To help with this, press the backside of a spatula against the side of the rolls to keep the meat from falling off, and press the meat down gently to compact it a bit so it holds together. Then, just move the spatula around the edges as you go along.
- You can sprinkle on sesame seeds or poppy seeds after brushing the rolls with butter if you'd like.
- If the tops of the rolls begin to get too brown as they bake, cover the dish loosely with foil.
Optional Burger Sauce
I usually serve these baked cheeseburger sliders with ketchup and mustard on the side so my guests can top them as they like. But if you want to add sauce, I recommend combining ½ cup of mayonnaise, 1-2 Tablespoons of ketchup, and 1 Tablespoon of Dijon or yellow mustard. A teaspoon or two of relish is great in the sauce as well. Spread the sauce on the cut side of the rolls before adding the toppings.
What to Serve with Cheeseburger Sliders
These mini hamburgers are perfect for an easy weeknight dinner the whole family will love. You can pair them with my air fryer fingerling potatoes. They're more flavorful than french fries and are crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. My air fryer zucchini fries are another great option.
They're also a great addition to a game-day spread with other game-day favorites like my baked lemon pepper chicken wings and BBQ chicken nachos. For a healthier twist on buffalo wings, try my buffalo chicken meatballs!
Storage and Reheating
Store leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days.
Reheat leftovers in a 325°F oven until warmed through. For individual servings, heat 2 sliders in the microwave for 30-45 seconds or until warmed through.
