Why this Recipe Works

Everyone loves sliders! They're a perfect hearty gameday appetizer or a quick and easy dinner. These shredded chicken sliders are a twist on the classic ham and cheese version, with rotisserie chicken in place of the ham.

Using store-bought rotisserie chicken makes them so easy. From start to finish, they're ready in just 30 minutes!

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients for chicken sliders set out on a countertop.
  • Chicken - You'll need 4 cups of shredded chicken from 1 rotisserie chicken. You can also make your own homemade shredded chicken. My Instant Pot Chicken Breasts work great in this recipe!
  • Slider Rolls - Sweet Hawaiian rolls are the go-to bread for these sliders. They're the perfect size, and the soft texture and mild sweetness is just right! I used the wheat version for a little added nutrition. Soft dinner rolls will also work if you can't find Hawaiian rolls.
  • Cheese - I used provolone for these chicken sliders, but Swiss cheese will also work great.

See the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the complete list of ingredients and measurements.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Prep - Preheat your oven to 375℉ and spray a 9 by 13 baking dish with cooking spray or grease with butter.
  2. Make the Sauce - Mix the melted butter, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and poppy seeds in a small bowl.

  1. Slice the Rolls - Slice the rolls in half, lengthwise, and add the bottom half to the prepared baking dish.
  2. Assemble - Spread the shredded chicken onto the rolls, then add the cheese slices and the tops of the rolls.

  1. Add the Sauce - Brush the butter mixture over the top of the rolls.
  2. Bake - Cover the dish with foil and bake for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for 5 more minutes.
  3. Slice and Serve - Remove from the oven and cut into individual sandwiches, then serve immediately.

Expert Tips

  • It's essential to cover the sliders with foil for the first 15 minutes of baking. This allows the cheese to melt and the rolls to get soft and gooey with the butter sauce while avoiding burning the tops.
  • You can mix the chicken with sauces like barbecue sauce, ranch dressing, or honey mustard for more flavor.
  • You can easily double or triple this recipe to feed a larger crowd.

What to Serve with Chicken Sliders

These rotisserie chicken sliders are perfect party food. You can serve them as part of an appetizer spread with other dishes like my lemon pepper chicken wings, spinach artichoke dip, and barbecue chicken nachos.

They're also great with a side of honey mustard dipping sauce for a quick and easy dinner or to pack in the kiddo's lunch box for school!

Storage and Reheating

Store leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days.

Reheat leftovers in a 300°F oven or the microwave until warmed through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can sliders be made ahead?

These chicken sliders are best straight from the oven, and I do not recommend fully baking them ahead of time. You can assemble them 2-3 hours ahead and refrigerate them. Remove the dish 30 minutes before cooking, then bake as directed, but add 5 additional minutes of baking time.
